The availability of Sony’s Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone in the U.S. has been a point of confusion. Sony has yet to make any official mention of the small flagship, despite bringing its bigger brother to Verizon and T-Mobile. Today, though, the small wonder has silently appeared in the U.S. online store, unlocked and available for purchase for $530.
The 4.7-inch smartphone made an appearance in the online store late last week with a “Buy Now” button but with no way to actually buy the phone. It would appear that restriction no longer exists. The Z3 Compact is listed with four color options—white, black, orange, and green. Once you work through some of the purchase menus, the page says the device is backordered and an expected delivery date is “unknown,” scary words to be sure, but you can at least place your order, so official availability might be right around the corner. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment.
T-Mobile also revealed more details about carrying Sony’s new flagship smartphone the Xperia Z3 (not compact). Pre-sale for the device will start at 12 a.m. PDT on Oct. 15 and will be available for sale in store and online for $0 down and $26.25 a month for 24 months starting on Oct. 29.
T-Mo joins Verizon in bringing Sony’s flagship to the United States. Verizon, meanwhile will be carrying a variant, the Z3v, which includes Qi wireless charging and slightly altered design similar to the Z2.
So it looks like the Z3 will get carrier treatment, with the Z3 Compact likely coming to the U.S. as an unlocked option, which thankfully doesn’t make the iPhone 6 the only great, reasonably sized smartphone anymore. Assuming it ever actually ships.
