Yet Another Bat-Villain Is Coming To Gotham… But With A Twist

It should be no surprise that another classic Batman villain is going to show up on Gotham during the show’s already jam-packed first season. But this new villain is coming with a unique twist: he’s the same age as Bruce Wayne. Spoilers ahead…

Sure, young Selina Kyle is approximately the same age as young Bruce Wayne in Gotham, but she’s less one of Batman’s enemies as she is a future friend with benefits.

This new character, the future Scarecrow aka Stephen Crane, is thoroughly a villain — and he’ll be an interesting mirror of Batman in that they both use fear to accomplish their goals — it’s just that Batman’s goals are a touch nobler than Scarecrow’s.

Here’s how Zap2It.com summarizes Scarecrow’s debut:

On “Gotham,” the villain will be seen as a child, before he takes on the Scarecrow moniker. In fact, it’s something that will be passed on to him from his father, which will create an eventual enemy for Batman while still having a possible adversary for Jim Gordon.

I’m curious to see how much young Crane and young Wayne interact with each other — mostly because it’ll give Bruce something to do other than sit around in Wayne Manor’s sole room looking at files with Alfred. Giving him his own personal antagonist seems like a smart decision, assuming their fights will have more substance than merely scrumming during recess.
