What San Diego Comic Con Will Look Like In The Year 2016

In the year 2016, if you’ve survived the great flooding, you should definitely attend the two-week 91st anniversary of San Diego Comic-Con — which takes place underwater. And yes, they have enough hotels. Check out the SDCC of the future!

History: Long gone are the early days of the con, when a mere 125,000 fans filled the entrance halls. Today, over one million fans fill the con’s 44 subterranean halls to maximum capacity (future plans include annexing Tijuana for even more space—so stay tuned!) The convention, which now last over 2 weeks, nets over 75% of the city’s annual budget costs and has an esteemed place within the community. Some even think that without the con’s earnings San Diego would be swallowed by the encroaching desert or drowned in the rising sea.

Theme: Appropriately, this year’s theme is the 30th anniversary of the great collapse, an event which galvanized San Diego’s commitment to Comic-Con. Thirty years ago, the world watched in horror as Greenland’s melting ice sheet broke off into the ocean pushing worldwide sea levels up 21 feet. Over a two week period, federal engineers responded by equipping the convention hall with cutting edge tech that keeps the hall watertight to this day.

Masquerade: Like cosplay? This annual event produces some of the most talented entries from around the globe and takes 3 days to view them all! Some winners have even appeared in Comic-Con’s hot reality show “Project Cosplay” to compete for top spots in holo-film costume design. Note: this years contest will be entirely underwater due to flooding in hall GGG65. Unfortunately, the promoters cannot move the masquerade to a dry room because of a packed programming schedule so this year’s theme will be “Under the Sea” and should feature all aquatic characters from your favorite films, shows and comics. Breathers will be provided by Destination Travel at no extra cost.

Lodging: Hotel chains will be providing cruise ships that dock directly above the con and offer jump sub ferries to Hall A dock ports. Besides reservation assistance, Destination Travel also provides care packages stocked with emergency breathers and portable floatation devices—-all you have to do is bring your Batman costume!
