Interested in what happens inside the world’s most famous anime studio? Then you’ll need to check out the documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, now available on VOD. We have an exclusive clip from the doc, where a relatively young Miyazaki gives a “love it or leave it” speech to his new employees.
This documentary is primarily about last year, in which Ghibli made The Wind Rises and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, and Miyazaki retired, but this clip was clearly film much earlier in Ghibli’s storied history. I’m not going to pretend to fully understand what’s happening in the second part of the video, when Miyazaki is singing about a dude who makes terrible anime, but I do know this: it’s one hell of a sick burn.
