The first scenes from the Scott Pilgrim Adult Swim cartoon are online

On Thursday August 12, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation, a four-minute cartoon flashback of Scott’s high school years, will air from 12-12:30 AM on Adult Swim. The animated short recounts Scott forming his band Sex Bob-omb with drummer Kim Pine.

The cartoon is divided into two portions that will be played during commercial breaks. The short was animated by Titmouse Inc., the studio behind the recent animated version of Garth Ennis and Amanda Conner’s The Pro.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation is based on the flashback sequence that kicks off the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World graphic novel. Scott meets his high school classmates Lisa and Kim for the first time, and they agree to start a band. The only problem? The villainous SImon Lee, who has the hots for Kim. (If you’ve read Volume 6, you’ll know that there’s a bit of revisionist history in this flashback).

Michael Cera and Allison Pill voice Scott Pilgrim and Kim Pine, respectively. Mae Whitman and Jason Schwartzman, who play evil exes Roxy Richter and Gideon Gordon Graves in the movie, lend their voices to new characters, Lisa Miller and Simon Lee. The short will be available to view August 13 on AdultSwim.com and the Scott Pilgrim Facebook page.
