After removing capsules of heroin from a drug smuggler’s stomach, one Siberian surgeon walked off with a souvenir: five grams of the freshly liberated drug.
The Guardian reports that after becoming ill on a train, a man acting as a drug mule was brought by police to a hospital in the small town of Bogotol, Krasnoyarsk Krai, where an unnamed surgeon removed the capsules of heroin from his stomach. That same surgeon later turned up high, and police discovered they had failed to confiscate all the capsules; five grams of heroin were hidden in the surgeon’s clothes.
It’s a bizarre tale of gaining access to drugs, but also a rather sad one for the drug smuggler. Despite having several capsules of heroin removed from his stomach, the smuggler fell into a coma.
