The excitement for the opening day of Star Wars Celebration Japan wasn’t limited to movies, TV shows, and collectibles—gamers had their moment too, with the reveal trailer for A Pirate’s Fortune, the second DLC story pack for Ubisoft’s action-adventure game, Star Wars Outlaws.
The trailer kicks off with Kay Vess, the game’s titular up-and-coming smuggler and scoundrel, accompanied by her cute companion, Nix, unceremoniously landing behind the bars of a jail cell. A rough start, sure, but great adventures often begin in the most unlikely places.
And as fate would have it, fortune soon favors Kay as she strikes an alliance with a pirate named Hondo Ohnaka, who casually admits he’s between crews at the moment. The duo’s new mission is to unearth a mysterious hidden treasure within a tomb in the Khepi system. Of course, it’s far from a simple treasure hunt—before they can even get close, they’ll have to go head-to-head with Stinger Tash and her ruthless Rokana Raiders.
According to Ubisoft’s official website, A Pirate’s Fortune isn’t just about a new adventure with Kay. It also brings a fresh batch of cosmetic items inspired by the Disney+ series Skeleton Crew. Alongside playing through its campaign, the story pack will also include an update gifting players items like a special outfit for Nix, a trophy for Kay’s speeder, and a trinket for both her speeder and her ship, the Trailblazer. During their journey, players can earn new rewards in exchange for taking on dangerous smuggling missions across the galaxy through the Miyuki Trade League.
Nestled within the announcement for Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate’s Fortune was another big reveal—its release date for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. While the game won’t be part of the launch lineup for the hybrid handheld when it debuts on June 5, Ubisoft has confirmed it will arrive a couple of months later, on September 4.
All good things to consider with the console’s new pre-order date, and if you’ve missed out on playing the game so far on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. Gamers on other consoles can look forward to A Pirate’s Fortune launching on May 15.
In io9’s review for Outlaws, we said the game’s got it where it counts, writing, “Outlaws sets a great standard for Star Wars games to play with, and in true scoundrel style, it does so with a little bit of endearing bluster. A cheeky wink and winging it can get you far on the galaxy’s edge, after all.”
