There are a lot of potential DC movies coming in the next few years.
Today’s news of Matt Reeves directing The Batman and Lego Batman director Chris McKay working on a Nightwing film was just icing on a cake that has about 50 layers of icing on it already. Warner Bros. is nothing if not committed to taking the characters of DC Comics and bringing them to the big screen.
Below, we give you the latest—as of the time of this posting—on all of the possible upcoming DC movies. All 17 (and counting) of them.
Wonder Woman
Patty Jenkins is currently finishing the iconic character’s first big screen solo movie and it comes out June 2. That’s the trailer, above.
Justice League
Justice League is also coming soon, directed by Zack Snyder, and scheduled for release November 17. A first full trailer is expected soon and we were even on the set.
Aquaman
Jason Momoa stars for director James Wan, who is currently casting and in preproduction on this film. Shooting is set to start in the next few months and it’s scheduled to be released on October 5, 2018.
The Flash
Originally scheduled for release in 2018, star Ezra Miller has already seen two directors come and go. The latest word is Joby Harold is writing a new script for the film and when a third director is attached, this will move forward. It currently has no release date.
The Batman
Ben Affleck was going to write, star, and direct a Batman solo film but now Matt Reeves will take the reigns. Affleck is still starring and though we are unsure who is writing the script, or if there will be a new script, Reeves’ addition means we’ll probably see this film sooner rather than later.
Green Lantern Corps
A revisit to the Green Lantern universe has been on Warner Bros. schedule since 2014, with a 2020 release planned. Then, in 2015, it was revealed to be Green Lantern Corps. With writers David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes currently working on a script described as “Lethal Weapon in space,” it seems like that 2020 release is still possible. Oh, and there are even rumors Ryan Reynolds could return.
Cyborg
Cyborg has also been set for a 2020 release since 2014 and, as of now, there’s no reason to see that changing. Played by Ray Fisher, the character will get his first full introduction in Justice League. He was rumored to play a large role in the Flash movie. Maybe that’ll flip now. No names are attached outside of Fisher.
Suicide Squad 2
The first film was a financial success and immediately, talks of a follow-up began. Those talks really heated up in the last week as directors like Mel Gibson were approached to make the sequel. Who or what would be in it is still a mystery, but we do know it will have some company.
Gotham City Sirens
Two spinoffs from Suicide Squad are also reportedly in the works, this one with a bit more certainty. Suicide Squad’s David Ayer is currently attached to direct this film, which would star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, as well as a few other female supervillains. You’d guess that means Catwoman and Poison Ivy, but nothing is confirmed outside of Robbie starring, Ayer directing, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet writing the screenplay.
Deadshot
With the news of Sirens came the possibility of another Suicide Squad spinoff, this one starring Will Smith’s Deadshot. No official word has come down beyond that—but Smith getting his own movie obviously makes sense.
Man of Steel 2
Once he rises from the grave in Justice League, obviously Superman will eventually get another movie. The most recent news on it, however, was back in August when it was reportedly put back in “active development.” Not that active, we guess, unless they are just hiding some Justice League spoilers.
Nightwing
Director Chris McKay, still swimming in dollars from The Lego Batman Movie, is now working on bringing Dick Grayson, the original Robin, to the DC Universe. Writer Bill Dubuque is penning the script and that’s all we know at this point.
Shazam
Since the original 2014 news of all these DC movies, Shazam has been slotted in for 2019. For a long time no one was attached but then the biggest star in the world, Dwayne Johnson, expressed interest in playing the film’s villain, Black Adam. So without script or director, he’s now a part of this film, but also a part of…
Black Adam
Yes, Black Adam is getting his own movie. The Shazam movie is still happening but Johnson will also star in a film exploring how Black Adam became the villain he is. Whether it comes before or after Shazam, or if it’ll take that 2019 slot, is still up in the air, as is a concrete creative team.
Justice League Dark
Yes, there’s an animated movie, but director Doug Liman is reportedly working on a live-action version too, featuring characters like John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. There hasn’t been an update beyond that in several months, so who knows at this point.
Lobo
Hollywood has been trying to make Lobo happen for years. And early last year, the writer of Wonder Woman, Jason Fuchs, was revealed to be writing a new take. What happened after that is a mystery, but it’s something that’s on the table.
Justice League 2
Originally, Zack Snyder was going to make two Justice League movies. That plan changed after the release of Batman v Superman and though there hasn’t been much chatter about it recently, if the first movie is a success, there will definitely be a sequel.
Deep breath. That’s a lot of movies. And really, the only official ones at the moment are the two this year (Wonder Woman and Justice League) and one next year (Aquaman).
After that, though, Warner Bros. has already reserved four dates for more DC movies: April 5, 2019, June 14, 2019, April 3, 2020, and July 24, 2020. Those could be any of the movies mentioned above, or none of them. Obviously, a lot will continue to change.
