The Dark Knight Rises

Here are a couple set photos from the New York Filming which show Christian Bale’s Batman and the Batwing on the roof of a skyscraper. Based on call sheets that have been floating around, there’s some speculation that this is part of a scene where Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox gets the Batwing ready for Batman, or a scene where Batman and Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman talk. Evil Dead Reboot

The magnificent Bruce Campbell talked up the remake, clarifying that this movie won’t feature a new Ash:

We are going to remake it, the original. And people are a little iffy about that. You know we wanted to remake a movie that would have better effects, we’re better at telling stories now, and so we found a young director, Fede Alvarez, who’s from Uruguay who’s going to direct the thing. There’s no Ash character in it, and that pisses people off, because they’re like, “How can you have Evil Dead without Ash!?” We didn’t want to have a direct comparison. You put Ash and all those characters in and people go, “Oh, that guy was OK…” I wouldn’t want to put a guy in that position.

Will you be making a cameo?

I don’t know. I don’t know. The old farmer? “Hey! How’s it going…?” I don’t know.

Godzilla

Max Borenstein, whose credits include the upcoming Art of the Steal and The Seventh Son, is reportedly now working on the script for Monster director Gareth Edwards’s new Godzilla movie. The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer worked on the first draft of the script. [Heat Vision]

Asteroids

The adaptation of the old Atari video game has also picked up a new writer, as Snow White and the Huntsman’s Evan Spiliotopoulos is reportedly picking up where original writer Matt Lopez, whose previous work includes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, left off. At one point, Roland Emmerich was rumored to be directing this film, but apparently he’s not. [Heat Vision]

300: Battle for Artemisium

After a subtle name change from Battle for Artemisia, the 300 quasi-sequel is reportedly looking to cast the former title character Artemisia. (Yeah, it’s all a bit confusing.) Here’s a description of her character, reportedly based on what casting agents have received:

Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) is somewhat pushed into the bloody battle with the Greeks by the gold-covered maven goddess Artemisia. Artemisia, witnessing just how much his father King Darius’s death has affected him, persuades Xerxes – with her “vindictive charm” – to go into battle against those responsible. Artemisia tells Xerxes that he has no choice but to avenge his father’s death and has to man up before becoming king. So, he sets off to become a God because that’s the only way he can win the battle.

Artemisia also reportedly tries to brainwash the Greek hero Themistocles, which Warrior star Joel Edgerton is reportedly in talks to play. Here’s how those two fit together:

Though the Persians took his family, and he’s spent ten years training the Greeks for battle, Artemisia has such an allure about her that the muscly Greek is taken. Ultimately, she convinces him that his life will be better off if he swaps sides. But this guy’s also as good a liar as he is a fighter. But as you can see, Artemisia is a central character in the story – she’s the one making opposing leaders jump through hoops.

I’d take this with a grain of salt until we hear more definitive news, but broadly speaking this all sounds plausible enough. [Moviehole]

Mirror Mirror

Tarsem Singh explains why his Snow White film will be a departure from his previous, more R-rated fare:

But for me, when they asked me on the PG-13 movie that I’m making [Mirror, Mirror], “Do you want to make it edgy?” No! Because when I make it edgy, nobody’s going to see it. I love the idea of making a movie for kids but it’s got to be that, with my take on it. And “edgy” is such a bad term. I kept telling them “edgy” is usually what people do when they make ads and they couldn’t get the job, you would say, “I’ll make it more edgy.” I’m thinking, edgy for who? Edgy for me? For Disney? For Gaspar Noe? Do you want a rape scene, what do you want? So I said, no, it’s a kid family movie. I want to make that. And they said, “Great,” and left me alone.

He also offered some clues about the sorts of visuals and flourishes we can expect from this particular Snow White movie:

I have a lot of interest, but I did not want to make a queen, again like the gods, that would turn cauldrons and say, “What are the humans up to?” I just don’t like the idea of the queen going into a mirror and talking. She goes into the mirror and she walks into a different landscape, she arrives in a completely different place and speaks to herself! She’s like a split personality person, doing all the evil she needs to do but yet can blame somebody else for it. So I said if I can get those pieces in, I’m interested in making this.

He also revealed the reason why Lily Collins is wearing a swan hat in one promo photo is because she’s attending a costume ball, not because that’s Snow White’s standard headgear. [Movieline]

The Host

Red Riding Hood actor Max Irons has reportedly been cast as Jared, the boyfriend of Saoirse Ronan’s human resistance fighter Melanie before she’s abducted by the evil parasitic aliens. [FirstShowing.net]

Doctor Who

John Barrowman reveals his dream project for Doctor Who…one I’m guessing doesn’t have much chance of happening, but I guess you never know:

“Now if it was Doctor Who with David (Tennant) playing the Doctor – I’m going to get in trouble for saying this – I’d happily do a film with him.”

[RTE ten]

However, Barrowman seems pretty sure he won’t be back for the televised, Matt Smith version of the show:

“Everybody keeps asking me and if I’m offered I would love to. I think it would be great. There is no plan to do that. No one has come forward. I don’t think it’ll happen. I’m always open for it, but who knows?”

[Coventry Telegraph]

Torchwood

Meanwhile, Barrowman is unsure what’s ahead on his current Doctor Who spinoff gig:

“If there’s a pause button, we’ve pushed the pause button now because we don’t know what’s happening. I would love to do a new series and I will play Captain Jack as long as they want me to play Captain Jack, but it’s in limbo at the moment and beyond my control.”

True Blood

My Name is Earl alumna Dale Dickey has reportedly been cast as Annie, the werewolf mother of Marcus. She’s reportedly a recurring character throughout the fifth season, and here’s a description of what she’s all about: “Powerful and respected within the pack due to her late son’s position, Annie is determined to perform a particular ritual.” [TV Line]

The Walking Dead

Robert Kirkman points out why things probably won’t go well at Herschel’s Farm:

It’s interesting to take note that if this show was told from the perspective of the Greene family, then Rick and all of survivors would pretty much be the villains … Hershel (Scott Wilson), Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince), Patricia (Jane McNeill) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) were having a pretty OK time on the farm, and then this group came and Otis was killed and now there’s this powder keg of crazy people living on the farm. Of course this is going to lead to conflict. We’ve now seen that Hershel is saying they’re going to have to get off his farm once Carl is better, and now that we know Lori is pregnant, and Hershel is really the only guy who has any kind of medical expertise, they’ve definitely got a lot of incentive to forcibly stay on that farm. Things will get pretty interesting soon.

AKA Jessica Jones

Twilight writer Melissa Rosenberg, who is developing the adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’s Marvel comic about a former superhero who becomes a private detective for ABC, discusses what’s going on with the project:

“Brian Michael Bendis is such an amazing storyteller. I read that comic book and I completely saw it on screen. There are things I took directly from the comic book and just put in the script. That was so much fun to do. It’s still sitting at ABC and we’re hoping to get on the schedule for next fall. I love this character. That is an incredibly damaged, dark, complex female character that kicks ass. That’s my favorite thing about it.”

She also confirms that Luke Cage, who is the husband of Jessica Jones in the comic, will indeed appear in the show, though she didn’t confirm that relationship will carry over exactly. She also said there aren’t any immediate plans to bring in their daughter Danielle:

“Luke Cage is in there. Absolutely, I love that character. [Danielle] would be way down the road. When you give your superheroes babies it gets very complicated. I went through that on Dexter, although it gives you some new interesting storytelling.”

She also confirmed the show will keep Jessica’s superhero past, and it won’t be treated as a particularly positive thing:

“Yeah absolutely, but Jessica Jones is actually a former superhero with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My psychologist father-in-law said, ‘I don’t know why all superheroes aren’t PTSD.’ It’s a trip. So she is wrestling with having this damaged past and still trying to contribute something to the world.”

Supernatural

Here’s a short description for the next episode after tonight’s. It’s called “Death’s Door” and will air on December 2 after a brief hiatus:

BOBBY REVISITS HIS PAST —- As Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) race the clock on a high-stakes mission, Bobby (Jim Beaver) seeks the help of an unlikely old friend to solve one of the most personal cases of his life.

[KSiteTV]

It’s now confirmed that X-Files and V alum Nicholas Lea will appear on the show as legendary Untouchables leader Elliot Ness, which will show him back in the 1940s, where’s it’s revealed that he was a hunter of more than just gangsters. He’s specifically set to appear in episode twelve, which is rumored to have the rather appropriate title “Time After Time After Time.” Either way, I hope this episode will be in keeping with the historical Eliot Ness, in that Ness himself will be all talk but not actually that effective at catching criminals, and then some IRS agent will bust a demon for tax evasion or something. [TV Line]

Most of these aren’t official yet, but here’s a list of titles for a bunch of future episodes, along with some provisional airdates:

#7.8 “Season Seven, Time For A Wedding!” (11/11/11)

#7.9 “How To Win Friends And Influence Monsters” (11/18/11)

#7.10 “Death’s Door” (12/2/11)

#7.11 “Adventures in Babysitting” (1/6/12)

#7.12 “Time After Time After Time” (1/13/12)

#7.13 “Knocked Up” (2/3/12)

#7.14 “Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magic Menagerie”

#7.15 “Repo Man”

#7.16 “Another Man’s Treasure”

American Horror Story

Here’s a promo for episode seven, “Open House.”

Co-creator Ryan Murphy offers some clues about the next episode:

Episode 7 is called “Open House” and it’s a very Constance-heavy episode. Finally they find somebody to buy the house and leave and Constance is not happy about that. Next week is definitely our most sexual episode and it’s very Constance heavy with her trying to protect herself. And we meet another one of her children. It’s very exciting.

He also drops some hints about the Harmon baby:

Constance says “We need another baby.” Does that mean the house needs a baby?

Yes. Two episodes from now really deals with why does the house and its occupants have baby mania? What is that about? Constance is clearly in cahoots with someone or some thing. I can’t say.

What’s the deal with Constance eating the meat and especially the brain? Is she under control of the house? Or the baby is taking over?

I think that her baby is having some really demonic cravings. God bless Connie Britton for shooting that scene with the brain and all that stuff. I believe it was made for Connie who is one of the alltime health conscious people I know. I believe it was made from gelatin and molded. There’s a little bit of a homage to Rosemary’s Baby where she ate the liver. We wanted to one up it. Of course everyone’s gonna now say like that’s so totally not sanitary. To which we respond, when you see the baby, then we will talk about it. That baby has some ferocious cravings.

Sadly, he rules out the possibility that Rubber Man is the actual father of Vivien’s baby, dashing the hopes of everyone who wanted to see a toddler in a black rubber suit (which I assume constitutes pretty much the entire viewership of this show). Of course, it just seems like it would totally go against everything American Horror Story stands for if that twist doesn’t happen, so stay tuned. [EW]

Tate will reportedly face up to what he did, but not until the last three episodes of the season, which supposedly will somehow manage to be shocking even by American Horror Story standards. Billie Dean will return in episode 11, and an upcoming episode will feature a flashback to a main character’s childhood, but not Violet’s. [E! Online]

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

Hal Jordan voice actor Josh Keaton gives an overview of what the show is all about:

The show is going to focus a lot on the Green Lanterns. Not so much on the Earth storyline. It’s about the Lantern Corps. It’s about specifically Hal and Kilowog. So it’s going to follow them throughout frontier space. There’s going to be a lot of new stuff, a lot of familiar stuff. And, yeah, you’ll definitely see more of Oa than you saw in the movie.

And so is it more going to be procedural with a specific adventure every episode?

It’s not necessarily going to be villain of the week. Yes, there will be some stand-alone episodes however everything is still going to tie together. And even the stand-alone episodes are going to build into an end of season arc.
