While Google and Amazon continue to bicker back and forth about which company’s services will be available for what platforms, it seems Apple is finally getting its act together now that Amazon Prime Video is available on the Apple TV.
After years of waiting, Prime Video is available now for free. All you have to do is head over to the App Store on any Apple TV and then log in with your Amazon credentials. Prime Video has been available for some time on iPhones and iPads, however it had never been available on any of Apple’s streaming TV boxes. It wasn’t until relatively recently at WWDC 2017 when Apple and Amazon belatedly said they had reached an agreement to develop a dedicated tvOS app for the Apple TV.
With Amazon finally relenting on its years-long holdout, it seems the company may be finally realizing it needs support from partners like Apple if its streaming video service is going to thrive.
Meanwhile in Apple land, the addition of Prime Video should help bolster the Apple TV’s content library until the company’s billion dollar push into original programming bears fruit. Currently, Apple’s original content consists of shows like Carpool Karaoke and the inane reality TV competition Planet of the Apps, which pales in comparison to the kind of award-winning programming Netflix and Amazon have been developing such as Stranger Things and Transparent.
