10 Things We Hope to Learn at CinemaCon 2025

From Dune and Spider-Man, to James Bond and The Running Man, here's our 2025 Las Vegas wishlist.

Next week marks one of the biggest days on the movie geek calendar. It’s the start of CinemaCon, the Las Vegas industry trade show for exhibitors, aka the people who run and own movie theaters. For four days, they’ll be wowed by the latest in terms of projection, snacks, and popcorn buckets, while also enjoying elaborate presentations from each Hollywood studio of what’s on its upcoming slate. Basically, studios bring celebrities, exciting movie news, and never-before-seen footage, hoping to excite exhibitors enough so they’ll play their movies on more screens.

For the 11th year in a row (minus covid), io9 will be in Las Vegas for CinemaCon, bringing you all the biggest news as it happens. And, as we continue to prepare, we thought we’d make a wishlist of the biggest things we hope are mentioned or shown at the event. Of course, every studio will show trailers and footage from the next year or so of movies. Superman will be there. Mission: Impossible will be there. Jurassic World will be there. Avatar will be there. We’re thinking beyond that. So here are 10 things we hope to see or learn at CinemaCon 2025.

Anything about Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man often has a big presence at CinemaCon. It’s where Sony debuted the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, for example. But last year, Sony did not attend. No Spider-Man news. This year, Sony is back, and we know for a fact that Spider-Man 4 is coming. So, maybe, we’ll get a title or tease or something.

When this could happen: Sony’s presentation, Monday, March 31, from 6:30 p.m.-8:45 p.m. PT

Anything about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Yeah, I’m going double Spidey here. He deserves it. Two years ago, in addition to the No Way Home trailer, CinemaCon debuted the first footage from Across the Spider-Verse and broke the news of Beyond the Spider-Verse. Everyone has been dying to know what’s happening with Beyond, so hopefully we’ll at least get a new release date.

That Dune Messiah is official

The only people who like Dune movies more than fans are theater owners, because they made them so much money. So much has been made about when this third movie is coming out, if it’s next on the calendar for director Denis Villeneuve, etc. Maybe Warner Bros. can just put that all to rest.

New details on The Batman: Part II

The Batman: Part II officially became a thing at CinemaCon back in 2022 and, since we expect there to be a large Superman presence already, any news on the Bat-sequel would be the perfect way to explain to theater owners the difference between the worlds.

#Family – Universal

An update on the Fast and Furious franchise

Vin Diesel has been talking about Fast X Part 2 on his Instagram for months, but that’s the only place we’re hearing any discussion about it. Originally, it was supposed to be out next week, and now it hasn’t even started filming. I asked for this last year but I’m asking again this year: “Vin, baby, let’s make this official.”

What are the Daniels doing?

After winning Oscars for Everything Everywhere All at Once, the Daniels set up a mysterious new film at Universal. Its release date has shifted a bit, so potentially CinemaCon would be a great place to shore that up and give us a title/plot description. We’re interested no matter what, but let’s get some info.

The cover of Project Hail Mary – MGM

First Project Hail Mary footage

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller haven’t (fully) directed a movie in over a decade. Can you believe that? But, next year, they’re returning with an adaptation of this very cool novel by The Martian author Andy Weir. Ryan Gosling stars, filming is almost certainly done, and since Amazon/MGM has to talk about more than just James Bond, we have a good feeling about this one.

First Running Man footage

This one is kind of cheating. CinemaCon has already announced that director Edgar Wright and his Running Man stars Glen Powell, Coleman Domingo, and Josh Brolin are being honored at the event. They’ll be there. So there’s a 100% chance a first trailer or something will be shown for the November release. But even though it’s obvious, we don’t care. One of our best directors, Edgar Wright, is adapting a Stephen King book made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger! We are running our way to the theater, man!

Mandalorian Season 3 Star Wars Mando Grogu
More than Mando and Grogu maybe? – Lucasfilm

Something, anything, new for Star Wars

With Star Wars Celebration mere weeks away, and Disney with plenty to talk about besides Star Wars, we have a feeling Star Wars movie news, beyond maybe the D23 footage from The Mandalorian and Grogu, is a long shot. Especially since if Lucasfilm had anything, it would save that for its own convention, right? But anything is possible, and it’s been a long time since theater owners had a Star Wars movie on their screens. Surely they’ll want to know there’s more than just one coming.

New Marvel news

CinemaCon is all but guaranteed to feature lots of footage from Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but could there be anything else? San Diego Comic-Con is several months away, and if Marvel has any other new titles it wants to make official to supplement Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, this would be a good time. We doubt it—but again, we’re hoping.
